The Journey is an exclusive Better Balance – Safer You concept and is designed to focus on what you can do in order to achieve individual goals in a highly fun and social environment. As seniors, we have few imposed goals which we strive for. We might have a regular exercise routine, weekly chores and family obligations to look forward to, but not much more as a whole.

The Better Balance – Safer You Journey has realistic levels or goals represented by colored pins to help seniors monitor their improved balance, self confidence, and personal safety.

Learn, Practice and Progress

Each level (11 in total) is identified by a colored pin that represents personal pin levels with specific requirements. However, the requirements can be adjusted to fit each student’s abilities in order to climb the colored pin ladder and eventually reach the rank of Black Pin and beyond.


Each pin is full of meaning and philosophy. As you advance from white pin to black pin, it symbolizes the knowledge and awareness that you are gaining about yourself, while restoring your balance and self confidence. Better Balance – Safer You believes specific and achievable goals are essential for maximum results. 

Each pin is earned through testing. At first, many of our students are reluctant to test as they are asked to perform their level requirements in front of other students and family. However, the testing process (on average 2 months between tests) has become a true sense of pride and accomplishment especially when they are awarded their next pin. The bottom line is to have fun and to move forward!
